These photos and video were shot on Friday, May 15th, 2009 outside of WMOX-AM1010 in Meridian, MS at about 7:15am.  I was there to do an in-studio interview and live performance that morning on the air with Bill Smith and Scott Gray at 8:15am.  Sam Peck, who played acoustic guitar with Big Swig that weekend in Meridian, and I left Atlanta the evening before headed for Meridian.  We arrived at WMOX at 3am Atlanta time which was 2am in Meridian.  We decided that instead of driving another 30 minutes out to where we'd be staying the weekend, and then back the next morning for the 8:15am interview, that we would just camp there in the van for a few hours, get up, I'd do the interview and then go out to where we'd be staying.

It was a really beautiful night.  We had driven through some rain on the way from Atlanta but it was dry and clear in the parking area outside the radio station which is inside a little building / house that is in the middle of a pasture outside Meridian.  It was quiet and dark, but moonlite with fog on the pasture all around.  We got out of the van to soak it in as a train went rolling by less than a half a mile away.  We wound up getting our guitars out and strumming and singing for more than an hour and a half I'd say before bedding down in the van for the night.  We woke up at about 7am to the sound of a train going by again, as they had done several times during the night, and hung out in the van for an hour or so before going in to do the interview.  It was a gorgeous, bright, dewy morning.  After enjoying the view for a few minutes and enjoying the sights and sounds of the morning, including watching a little rabbit hop away into the field, we tuned into the station and listened to the broadcast before going inside to get ready for the segment.  We were welcomed with smiles and a cup of coffee by Bill Smith and Scott Gray.  We looked and felt pretty rough but it was one of those great experiences that can only happen on the road, like a scene out of a Mark Twain meets Jack Kerouac book.  Thanks Bill Smith and WMOX! - Arlan
